PROJECTS

AMBRELA’s team boasts considerable experience in implementing projects for raising awareness in the areas of education, health, human rights, gender issues and employment. Below is a list of past and ongoing projects undertaken in cooperation with other organizations.

Documentation of Romani children – cooperation with the Centre for Human Rights and Conflict Resolution in registering and obtaining identity documents for previously unregistered children.

Education assistance and peer mentorship – cooperation with Volkshilfe in developing and delivering daily activities for children who visit AMBRELA’s Centre. Areas of activity include homework assistance, computer literacy, languages, and social skills. Additional activities aimed at gender empowerment are delivered by girls attending secondary school to girls of pre- and primary school age.

Empowerment of Romani youth – sports and community work in the framework of the international initiative Open Fun.

Field research on Health issues – interviews on immunization of Romani children with over 200 families in Šuto Orizari in the framework of a project implemented by the Romani NGO Mesečina.

Material support for education – coordination of distribution of school supplies provided by the power authority EVN for children in need

Research on Romani integration – international project led by the European Centre for Minority Issues involving field research in ten cities located throughout Macedonia.

Roma Decade awareness – informing the local Romani community about the existence and importance of the Decade of Roma Inclusion, with emphasis on education, health, employment, housing, and human rights. Undertaken in cooperation with the national network of Romani NGOs, RNVO2002.

Romani cultural mentors – work to preserve and promote Romani culture in cooperation with the NGO Darhia.

Romani school mentors – motivating children to enter and stay in school, assisting parents and schools to create conditions for regular school attendance in the framework of a national project implemented by the National Roma Centrum.

Stop Child Abuse – awareness raising workshops with children and parents on child abuse and how to eradicate it; this action was implemented in cooperation with the National Council of Women of Macedonia, as a part of the world activities organized on the official day of the Child Abuse prevention.

Women’s participation in the voting process – raising awareness among women of their right to vote and about gender-based discrimination.
Women’s political participation – raising awareness about the importance of political activism in the framework of a project led by the Romani women’s NGO Daja.
Young Romani women leaders – participation in the initiative Romki liderki, through which young Romani women challenged gender-based traditions.
